If you have low iron...

Do you notice a substantial decrease in your milk supply if you're not taking a supplement?  I read this can affect it.  I was put on an iron (and other things) supplement after I delivered DD because I was a bit anemic but haven't refilled it (it was prescription).  My supply seems to be decreasing even though I'm doing pretty much everything to keep it up.  I talked to my OBs office and they said I can just use an OTC supplement now and I was going to pick it up today.  Has this made a difference for you?

 TIA!

  • I was also taking iron (the SLOW FE otc) and I stopped last week. I haven't noticed any change in supply.

  • Sometimes I forget to take my iron supplement, but I don't think it has affected my supply.  I take Target-brand OTC iron, rather than the Tandem FE they prescribed.
  • i haven't noticed that.

btw you probably know, but-- make sure you are taking iron w/ oj or vitamin c and NOT at the same tome as pnv.  the veg kind from whole foods has better absorption and less constipation
