XP: Baby friendly pest control (ants!)

Any advice on getting rid of ants?  We've got them in our spare bedroom.  There's no food in there, so I'm not sure what they're looking for!

DH is hesitant to call a pest control company unless we know that they'll use something safe around babies.

Can anyone recommend a pest control company or some other method of ant control?

We have had ant problems a few times and although we don't have a baby (yet!) we do have pets.  Things that friends recommended: cornstarch, talcum powder or chalk - the ants can't digest it (or at least that is what I was told).
