Ow, Ow, Ow!!

So... the past 4 or 5 days, when I nurse on the right side, it hurts so badly I want to scream out in pain.. it's like little razor blades clamping down on my nip.. (I haven't had any nursing pain except the first couple days..)

This pain only happens for about the first 45 seconds.. but it's just awful..

What is this?  This will pass right??

Is your nipple cracked? It will pass. Try those gel pads - maybe a crap, I forget the name, they aren't a shield it's like a little dome to protect your nipple from rubbing against your bra...and put lanolin on all the time. It does go away....

And, Piv, my nip isn't cracked.. it's not external skin pain.. quite strange.

I found this:

I get them too, I asked my in home RN about it and she said in all likely hood it is probably that some of the ducts have narrow passages and milk production causes them to fill quickly and swell fast causing shooting pains...

I don't know how much truth is to that but is it possible it might be mastitis or the beginnings of a blocked duct? I noticed that I get that shooting pain a day or so before a blocked duct (I've had blocked duct twice).

Maybe, maybe not. I too get the shooting pains like she describes, never had thrush. But should call the OB to ask.
