Switching Formulas- Constipation ?

We changed DS's formula on Tuesday, he was pooping normally until yesterday when after not going for 45 hours (his usual is 30-36 hours), he went and pooped a hard round ball. So we gave him prune juice and he pooped a few more times each one getting softer. ?Is his body going to adjust to the new formula and stop constipating him? ?How long does it take for them to adjust? ?Or could the new formula always constipate him? ?We went from Gentlease to Similac Advance, btw. ?TIA!

we found once we tried a new formula it made him constipated. It took about 2 weeks before we knew how he was really acting on the formula if it was working or not. We never had a hard ball form though, he just wouldnt go for days at a time. I would ask your pedi office if your concerned. Good luck.

they got constipated when we tried to switch to generic.  Pedi said give it a week when changing formulas.  But he also said why screw up a good thing and switch.  We switched back.  It wasn't worth the constant crying due to being clogged up.

We had the same problem with DD.  Switching formulas can definitely constipate them.  We use one tsp caro syrup in her bottles as per our pedi until her poops become softer again.  After about a week of our switching from Similac to Gentlease it got better.  She's having a little trouble now, but she has been fine for the last 7 weeks.  Honestly, I don't know if the Similac will always constipate him.  We switched to the Gentlease because it was easier on her tummy.  You might want to call your pedi about your formula question.

I would ask your pedi. The stool you mentioned definitely means he was constipated.  Why did you switch formulas?  You may just have to continue to give him juice on the advanced if it constipates him.

Hm okay. I thought the prune juice was a one time thing... I guess I'll call to see if I need to do it for every bottle as a preventative measure or wait and see if the next natural poo is hard again.

We switched formulas because DS was a gassy screaming mess on Gentlease. ?We were tempted to stick it out because I figured the Gentlease was okay for him, could be better, could be worse. ?But then we decided to try other ones since if you find the right one all of those problems go away... supposedly, lol. ?DS seems to like the Similac better and I don't think he's worse- crying and gas wise, which is impressive considering he is in the peak fusspants stage, but we'll go back to the Gentlease in another week if this whole constipation thing keeps up.
