FFs

After trying desperately to breastfeed for two weeks and pumping for one, I decided that I was moving to FFing.  I have spent the last week pumping at longer intervals to dry to decrease my milk supply, but it is PAINFUL!!! Any advice?  I thought it would be a little better by now.  I moved from pumping every 3 hours to every 5 hours.  The first two days were painful and then it seemed to get better so I moved to 6-7 hour intervals yesterday with no problem.  Then today, I did not make it 5 before I was very sore, but now when I pump hardly any milk comes out and the soreness does not go away!

Re: FFs

  • wrap them tight in an ace bandage or wear a sports bra. ?do not let hot water hit them in the shower. ?and stop pumping. ?should be okay in 2 or 3 days.

  • I stopped pumping cold turkey and they hurt for a couple of days, and were back to normal.

That being said, I had the crappiest supply ever so it's not like there was much filling them up.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • Try taking sudafed around the clock, and drinking sage tea. Those are supposed to help. Hope you feel better soon!

  • Thanks for the advice! I actually wore a "looser" bra today so maybe that is why there is more soreness.  I will be finding a tight sports bra and just thinking of never pumping again makes me smile!

Yes. It's amazing how liberating it is when it's been nothing but a hellish experience. You're doing what's best for you and your baby. Don't think any different.

  • Erin said it better than I could have, but good for you for making a decision that will help you and your baby be happier!

I went cold turkey and had a HUGE supply and it hurt like hell. But cabbage leaves help! I know it sounds wacky, but go buy a head of cabbage, wash the leaves, put it in the fridge to chill it. Then stick the leaves in your bra so its totally covering each breast. Leave on till they wilt and then exchange for new leaves. Really helps dry them up and relieve engorgement!
