Help-Need a reminder:what gives breastfed babies gas?

I am nursing my 2nd child...my 1st child had gas from my milk, but I forget what caused it...any thoughts on what foods to stay away from?

Re: Help-Need a reminder:what gives breastfed babies gas?

  • I think it varies but the first ones to try eliminating from your diet would be beans, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. I saw a short list recently but don't remember all of it. My LO gets gas but I think it's mostly from swallowig air - he is hard to burp, so often we can't get it out of him and he's in pain later. Today is the first day we are trying mylicon.

  • onions, cabbage, anything that gives you gas. Try Gripe Water...liquid drops to help settle babies tummy. It is a mix of ginger, fennel and other herbs...really fast acting. Great for hiccups too!

  • dairy was the main thing my doc said to stay away from.  also the other things listed (broccoli, carbonation, etc)... you can check kellymom.com for other tips.
