I love Genevieve, but DH nixed it (make sure you get that extra e in there or it will always be misspelled). I considered Guinevere, too. I had a friend with that name in HS. She went by Ginny when she was younger and switched to Gwen in college.
I like Genevive, but even more if it's spelled Genevieve and pronounced John-vee-yev (that's as close as I can get to spelling it the way it's pronounced in French).
imo, Guinevere is the most awful name I have ever heard. It is really ghastly. Genevive is spelling wrong and is not that great either, mostly because I think Jenny is so plain and that would be a likely nn.
I think either is fine, if you like it and its not awkward with your last name!
I like Guinevere (or Gwenhwyfar, the original Welsh Spelling) And if you like the nn Gwen, Gwenyth (or Gwyneth) or Gwendolyn are other options that won't have a "stigma" attached.
I went to school with a Genevieve and always loved her name. We never found it right to give her a nn, we liked saying her name too much!
Not a huge fan of Guinevere. My great-grandmother was Genevieve and so is DH's grandmother. So we'll be using it as a middle name for a girl one day, if we have one.
Guinevere - screams King Arthur & the Knights of the Round Table. Sorry but it does.
Genevive - it's different that is for sure. In the Northeast we used to have a chain of drug stores called Genovese and that is what I think of then I hear this name. I just don't see anything beautiful about it.
So not a fan of Guinevere, but Genevieve is actually on my list for a girl. I like that is has multiple NNs to suit different personalities. Gena (which I most often hear pronounced like Jenna) always makes me think of the beautiful, classy Gena Rowlands, and I have a student Jenna who is very smart, pretty, kind and outgoing. Vivi would suit a bright and bubbly child. Names with one predominant NN are NMS because who knows what kind of personality your baby is going to end up with???
Re: Guinevere or Genevive
I actually quite like Gwen, but I do think there's a lot of baggage with the name Guinevere, which might be hard for a kid to pull off.
And Genevive is not quite as compelling somehow... Not as much baggage, but not as interesting either..
Beautiful names!
Although, agree w/ pp re: traditional spelling of Genevieve (not Genevive).
I love them both. I also love Gwendolyn.
I admit....I am strange.
I like Gwen, but not Guinevere.

NMS at all. I had a hedgehog named Guinevere. I do like Gwen though.
I'm not a fan of Guinever, but I do like Gwyneth (or Gwenyth) or Gwendolyn and call her Gwen (or Gwyn).
I love Genevieve.
I strongly prefer Genevive/ Genevieve.
Have you considered Geneva?

Genevieve is my Gmas name!
