We just celebrated Joshua's baptism on March 15. It was a truly wonderful and spiritual event. I was asked to post some pics and talk about the planning and so here i go:
We decided on a brunch reception at my parent's house b/c thats what worked best when we did the baby shower. The church was like 5 mins away from my parent's house so they were able to get over there and start arranging things while we stayed behind at took photos with family/friends. For food, we ordered luncheon meats, croquetas, and this yummy brie platter from publix (which had salami, olives, and of course, brie!). We then bought an assortment of breads so that people could make sandwiches. We paid for it ahead of time so the day of the baptism, we just showed up and picked them up. That saved a whole mess of time. My mother also made 2 quiches and we had alot of different dessert items, plus the cake which I got at Publix as well. It had buttercream icing and the cake was marble. yum! We got 3 of those box of joes from dunkin donuts and then had sugar/creams at the buffet table. As far as other drinks, we had 2 coolers, one with cokes/water/sprite and the other with beers. We then had a tub with oJ and champagne for mimosas. We only had 1 long table for the food but we were able to fit everything on there and had enough food for everybody. We then had a cake table. My mom is a huge martha stewart fanatic so she made these paper cones and put light blue, light green, and white m&ms in them and stuck them into foam and passed them out. the tables were decorated with a centerpiece of white tulips. We found these frames at the dollar store that say "baptized in Christ" and put 3 on each table with 3 different pics we took of him in his baptismal gown at babies r us. We also found these little figurines of a baby laying down on a blanket face down and glued those to a ribbon that said "joshua's baptism" with thedate and then glued that to a mesh bag that had potpourri so people could take home. We also did little remembrance cards with his picture and the names of the parents, godparents, the deacon who baptized him, and the church.
We rented tables, chairs, a tent, and some plain white tablecloths. The baptism was at 1200 and we were all done by like 4pm. It was a really nice day, beautiful weather. Anyways, here are some pics:

Re: baptism ideas for Mari, britishbride and for anybody else planning one.
aww thanks so much Mari. We kept it all real low key and simple but it worked. We are going to save the extravaganza for his 1st bday party
www.ayestaranpartyrental.com is the name of the rental co. They have some prices listed there but not all. The contact person is Iris and her # is 305-687-7062, fyi: she speaks spanish only I think. and we got tablecloths that didnt go all the way to the ground, that way they stayed clean and didnt get any grass stains.
