DS loved his. I also used it in the shower (I know it says not to). I would put DS in it on the shower floor while I cleaned up. I got much better showers like that for months!

I thought the Bumbo was the best (unnecessary) baby item we had, and I give them at every baby shower I go to now! Especially now that you can buy a tray for them.
When Rory started solids, she was pretty small for the high chair still, and of course she was always a complete mess. It was perfect for feeding her. We'd strip her down to her diaper and let her go, and then hose the whole thing down afterward. We used it for that purpose multiple times daily from about 6 months to 8 months.
as with everything child related thing it probably depends on the kid but M loved it. i used it a lot when i started solids with her. very easy to clean up.
it was a waste of money for my dc. I know many who use it for feedings.. but we used the highchair for that. Dd would rarely sit in the bumbo for more than a minute or two. Ds rarely sat in it. dd thought it was a potty when we pulled it out for ds.. that's the most action that bumbo ever saw... her running to sit on the potty (she was still in diapers at the time). I sold it.
if you do decide to try one... try yard sales or consignment shops or borrowing one first. I regret buying a new one.
I lurved the bumbo!! I could sit him in that thing anytime, anywhere and we would both be content! I will definitely use it for my DD this summer. I even fed him from the bumbo in the beginning. A must have IMO. Even now that we have pulled out all the baby stuff my son is still getting a kick out of sitting in it (yes he still fits). Honestly, bumbo = great buy. I even took it with us to friends/family houses. It was nice to not have to carry him the whole time or leave him in the car seat. He could sit in it and watch and be a part of everything!
We just started putting Liv in it and so far she seems to enjoy it for short spurts -- especially if Ella is in the room "entertaining her" (read: running around like a maniac).
I agree with D&R though, when Liv isn't in the seat I am constantly reminding Ella that she is too big for it, to which she replies "I not too big, my hiney fits -- see!!!). Ugh.
I have always liked mine. We take it with when traveling and use it for feeding instead of a high chair. We have done it this way through 2 kids and it has always worked out well. So portable!
He has reflux issues right? If so, I would not get it for him.
DS had bad reflux and I got the Bumbo thinking it would be great for keeping him upright after eating. Well, I guess it was too upright and squished his belly or something because it always made him puke and then he would be miserable. I got rid of it.
I am with *sparky*. I loved it for DD, but she was not spitty at all. DS is a 'happy spitter', not diagnosed with reflux or anything. But, when he sits in the Bumbo, it is a spit up free for all!
Honestly, the only times we really use it is if we are going somewhere else for dinner or had another child over for dinner... great for an extra highchair. I honestly don't think we used it much to just sit her in to play or anything (she would bend and whine and try to get out after 5 minutes). But I'm still glad we bought it. It's been nice to have for the highchair use.
We got one as a gift when DS was born. We used it for a short time but by time he was 5 months old he's wiggle around enough to get himself out of it. But we bought a tray to use w/ DD this time around and hopefully we'll like it better then!
We loved ours as did my SIL...several of my friends did not - there kids would flip out of it.
The difference between myself and SIL and my friends is that SIL and I DC in them at 2-2.5 months with towels until they were able to support themselves at 3-3.5 months. My friends waited until 4.5-5 months.
DS had amazing upper body strength very early and I credit the bumbo for aiding in this. Also his balance was helped big time and I again credit the bumbo. SIL feels the same way about DN.
For $40 it is worth it. It is nice that you can put them in it almost as soon as they have good head control...if they are skinny babies you can put towels or blankets around them. I liked to put DS on the counter when I was in the kitchen (not too close to the edge!) and he loved watching me work. I used it for feeding too...after I got the tray (which is so nice). He ate little cheerios, etc. while sitting in it. I think we used it from about 2 months until about 6.
Re: Are Bumbos worth it?
IF you can keep A out of it. Taylor broke the one I got for Mitch....she always would sit on it and she broke the horn off.
But for the few weeks I had it, Mitch used it.

I was so excited to see they made a tray for them now because that would be perfect for feeding puffs or cheerios.
LOL! The mess...
I loved it for Jake!!!! He would sit in it and play with his piano and other toys. Jake loved his too:
Just don't put them on the counters, I hear that can be dangerous.

Not that my rig doesn't have enough space.

For DD, LOVED IT.
For DS, used it a week & he figured out how to hump his way out.
