NBR - those photomats for wedding guests to sign...

where do you get them?

Friend of mine is engaged and wants one for her wedding. I've never ever seen them here but I know they're ocmmon in the US. I was going to get a friend in the US to send it on to us.

My friend wants a few American touches because her FI was born in America (though you wouldn't know it, he came to Australia age 13 months and has never been back, now is in the Australian Air Force).

I suggested the unity candle ceremony thing and she saw the photomats in a wedding magazine (US one). But it didn't give a retailer. I told her I think they're pretty common in the US but I would have to look. Now I don't know where to start but I know my American pals will help me out right?

TIA!?

  • We didn't use a special one.  We just went to a frame store and found frames that had a wide mat.

Just as a suggestion if she's looking for something different, I'm doing a photo book for my sisters wedding.  I took their engagement photos and put together a photo book on one of the photo sites.  I just made sure to use only one picture per page and left a lot of open space all around.  I think it will give people more space if they want to write a message more than just their name.

  • I think I've seen them at Michael's (craft store).

I didn't have one of those, so I don't know what makes the photo mats "special," but why couldn't you just do a regular thick mat with a thin-line Sharpie?

  • Yeah brightening I guess you could, but since she was so taken with it (and neither of us had ever seen it done) I thought it would be nice to send her an American original :-) Since I have contacts and all.
  • I find those to be hideous. like hanging up a signed year book! It miht be a nice keepsake, but son't encourage her to display that sh!t in her home...
  • I should also add that although we did those at our wedding, four years later we still have not hung them up.  Ours ended up looking not nearly as nice as the ones you see in pictures.  There were sigs crowded together and little notes that you can't even read.  They really took away from the photos so they are still sitting in the closet.
  • Our photographer provided ours.  I didn't really care for the idea but it was part of the package.  And it actually turned out pretty good, we have it up in our bedroom.

  • We have one, but it's not a mat that people sign. We had our engagement pic blown up with a large white border all the way around for people to sign. The picture is quite large, so the sigs don't detract from it at all. I love the way it turned out. I think the pic is 16x16 and with the white border, it's 20x20. Having it in a square makes it more interesting as well. Plus people could actually see the pic as they were signing it.
  • ours came from pottery barn... it's pretty big. I love it.  and it is up on the wall in the landing between our 2nd and 3rd floors.  A friend has one and has it up in her and her dh's bedroom.

My mom insisted on a guest book as well.. pointless, I never look at it... but every so often when I'm going up and down the stairs I'll read some of the sweet comments from friends on my photomat!  It's especially nice since we live away.
