Are any of you seriously considering naming your DS after DH? Before we even found out what we were having, we had two boy names picked out.... Preston Alexander O**** and Brandon George O**** II (DH's name). Now DH is totally set on naming our DS after him. Everyone that I have shared this info with claims that naming him after DH is lazy and that we should give him his own name.

If DH really wanted a junior, I'd be okay with it.
What we'll likely do, though, is name a future son after DH's dad (who is the III). That way it would be after both DH's dad and grandpa. We'd likely use a different middle name, though (from my side).
God no. DH has one of the most common names out there, it's been in the top 10 on the SSA since probably the beginning of time. Not to mention he hates his name, which would squash the idea even if I liked it.?
I actually hate the practice of naming sons after fathers. I can understand maybe the same middle name, but I think making sons juniors and thirds is just lazy and egotistical. Unless you come from a long lineage of that name (and that pretty much leaves everyone out but royalty) it's just silly. ?

We never considered it. We would rather he have his own identity rather than a lift time of "Little whateverthenameis" or "Whateverthenameis Junior" We don't understand the whole idea of wanting your son to have the same name as you. European royalty started the tradition, but "normal" Europeans never practiced it and now actually think it is silly that Americans do it. For some reason, Americans earlier this century decided it was cool.
We have some in our family (cousins,) so I understand that in many families it is a tradition, although I can't really figure out why... it is always confusing re: who someone is talking about/ to.
I agree?

I agree also. Give the poor child his own name. ?
