Let me start this off by a little background...when DS started preschool, they sent home a several page booklet on what kinds of foods were appropriate for lunches. The "right" kind of yogurt, no Lunchables, no juice boxes because of the sugar content, the "right" kind of meat", no cookies, etc. It went on and on. Whatever...it was a bit extreme, but we are generally healthy eaters, so I can deal with it. It also stated that on special occasions, parents can't send in cookies, cupcakes, etc. They need to send healthy snacks such as vegetable sticks and fruit.
Okay, so now to yesterday. I go to pick up DS and his teacher tells me that they had a special surprise lunch for St. Patrick's Day so he was still eating. When he was done, she told me all the things that they had, which included cookies, cupcakes, ice cream and green punch. I was irritated for several reasons. 1) I don't like having a "surprise" lunch given to him. They are given snacks, but they are always healthy and we are given the menu for them for the month, so I know what he is having. I think I should have had notice of the lunch. 2) WTF...cookies, cupcakes, ice cream and punch??? How is that healthy??? Maybe I am the mean mom, but DS doesn't eat that stuff. I don't care what other moms do, but that's the choice that I made for him, and what I stick to. If they are telling us that it's a healthy school, how are they serving this?
Needless to say, all of this did not settle well with my little one, and he spent the night throwing it up. I am so upset with the school. And so sad for my little one who was terrified of what was going on. He hasn't ever thrown up before. He is finally sleeping. He's supposed to go to school today, but obviously isn't going. I want to talk to the teacher, but don't know what to say. What would you do?
Re: Upset with preschool
I would be soooo angry at that!! Especially since they made such a fuss over healthy eating.
I would ring them today and say that he won't be in because the junk food he ate yesterday had him throwing up all night. And see what they say to that. And then tomorrow I would just reitterate that if they are going to give him food that's not on the set menu, they are to run it by you first.
Poor fella. I hope he's feeling better soon.

Too busy to update the pics for now ...
Ditto this. I definitely would be annoyed if I were you, but I don't think that having some sugary foods at lunch would cause him to throw up all night, unless he has severe food allergies. And even then, I would think it would have been a more immediate response. It is more likely that he has a stomach bug.
I really doubt he is throwing up because of the junkfood. I am sure they limited how much of everything they got.
I think you should tell your son that you hope he had a great time at the party and lighten up. Sorry.
ditto this come one its not like it happens everyday
I disagree with the posters who said that he isn't throwing up because of the food. My DD has definitely thrown up from too much junk food. I am certain that is what caused it.
I would not send my kid to a school that had all those rules about food in the 1st place, so I can't comment on what I would say. I can see rules about allergens, but the rest of the stuff is my choice. My DD eats mostly healthy food, but I do not think the occasional treat is a big deal. Her favorite treat is actually a dum dum lolly pop, which is great because they have very few calories and take a while to eat.
