Can we talk 8 month old and table foods?

Just for a minute?

My little one is super interested in table foods and had some Cheerios today with success.

What are some soft, 8 month old friendly table/finger foods?

We didn't start table foods with #1 until he was 10-11 months old, so he jumped right in to grilled chicken, sweet potato sticks and so forth.

  • diced cooked veggies, pasta, bread anything you cook thats soft.  My kids were on table food then.  I even gave meat just cut up really small

  • mushed up banana, avocado, applesauce, peas (smushed so they don't roll down the throat), mushy cut up carrots, sweet potatoes, noodles (Cut up small), mashed potatoes,?
  • Bananas and really small bits of pasta are the best things I can think of. Those and Cheerios were the only table food I let DDs eat for a while, until I was sure they were totally OK with other things. My kids were/are really late teethers so I was scared to give them too much too soon (DD#1 got her first tooth on her 1st b-day and DD#2 is 13.5 months and still has no teeth!).

  • Pretty much anything soft and easy.  I started DD#2 with some gerber graduates, but that didn't last long.  She ate veggies, rice, softer fruit (bananas, etc.), potatoes, and things like that fairly quickly.  She loved spaghetti from the first time I gave it to her so that became a quick staple.  Basically, there's at least one or two things with every dinner I made that she could have.  The first thing I think we gave her was a biscuit when we went out to eat broken up really small. She went nuts.  From then on, though, she flat out refused to eat anymore babyfood except some of the fruits/desserts.  Ooops.    She also loved potato soup fairly early on - maybe even before the biscuit.  (DD#1's was split pea soup so similar idea.)  Seriously, she just wanted to be eating what her sister was eating and always has.
