The Pediatrician That Couldn't

Hey girls. I usually just lurk- not much of a poster. But I wanted to put something out there about Dr. Hopkins in Grapevine. I always see these glowing reviews of how great he so I thought I should issue a warning of sorts.

My 4 month old son has had RSV twice now. The first time was a fairly mild case a few weeks ago. Just was put on liquid medication. This time it was a lot more severe with breathing treatments, steriods and antibiotics. Both times Dr. Hopkins said he was fine, not to worry and there was no need to test him. Thanks to mommy instincts, I took him back to a different pediatrician in the same practice 1-2 days later who was able to diagnose him on the spot on both occasions. The first time with testing, second by just witnessing his symptoms.

Dr. Hopkins is  a very nice guy, good with babies and if my kid wasn't sick I would fully trust him. I just don't get how you can miss RSV twice. Once maybe since it was so slight, but a more severe case the second time? It is just infuriating that if I would have listened to my pediatrician I would have ignored the issue and we could very well be dealing with hospitalization or having RSV turn into something worse.

  • I sympathize. My pedi missed RSV too. I took her to Urgent Care the same day and insisted they test her. Of course it came up positive.

I'm sorry your little one has been so sick.

  • aw, i'm sorry.  We go to Dr. Wheeler who is great, but we love his nurse practitioner Alyson.
  • I am sorry you had a bad experience and I hope your LO is doing better, but I have had nothing but a wonderful experience with Dr. Hopkins. I actually find him to be a little aggressive so that is odd he did not do the test.

  • Thanks everyone. Carson is doing a lot better and I am just glad that we have a pediatrician at the practice I feel comfortable taking him to now. As for Dr. Hopkins, our first couple visits he was pretty good. I just think he has been swamped the past couple times and has always been in a rush to get the next appt. Oh well. On to the next pedi!
