It was born of Carol and Carolyn/Caroline and then ppl ended up using it on it's own. So, for a lot of ppl it is not a nn it is their full name. Although, I think it sounds "nicknamish" so it is nms unless it is paired w/ a proper name like Caroline.
I know a couple people that have it as a given name, but it still sounds like a nn to me. I could see where she'd be asked for her full name on a regular basis.
I have very strong opinions on names, and I feel very strongly that children should be given "real" names and not nicknames for names. (Just to give you an example, I prefer John to Jack, Katherine to Kate, Mary to Molly, etc.)
However, for whatever reason, Carrie is not one of those names that I think of as a nickname. I think it functions just fine as a name on it's own.
I don't think of Carrie as a full name. For some reason I do think of Kari as a full name. Weird I know. Maybe it's because I was nicknamed Carrie (my name is Carolyn).
Re: So Carrie is a nn?
I answered you on the 1st tri board.
I love being named Carrie.
