I love Charlie as a nickname for Charlotte, but DH has vetoed Charlotte
We both like Charlie though, so what do you think of using it as the name instead. Also, what spelling do you like: Charlee, Charley, Charli, or just plain Charlie? Thanks!
I really like Charlie as a nn for a girl. I could not give my child the formal name Charlie, though. Sorry. Too bad DH doesn't like Charlotte. At this hour, the only other name I can think of is Charlene.

Will your daughter be takes seriously as an adult with that name? Especially since some of the spellings you have look like you are trying to be unique.

Not trying to be "unique", just not sure if a more feminine spelling would be better. I think I like Charlie best though.
I really love the name Charlie for a girl!!! I picture a really smart, sophisticated person, and I totally think your daughter would be taken seriously....Then again, it is so unique that when she showed up for a job interview they might be like "Wait...I thought I was interviewing a man..." But I guess you could solve that by giving her a middle name that went well enough with Charlie that she could go by both as a professional name. do you know what I mean? For instance, my cousin is always called "Mary Jo" even though her middle name is Jo. Just a thought, but I personally really really love Charlie for a girl!!
it isn't unique anymore since girl charlies are popping up everywhere now. what about charlsey? i prefer that spelling but i know one spelled that way and also one spelled charlesy.

It's not really my style, but I think if you spell it differently people may not know if its a hard "ch" like Charlie or a softer one like "Cheryl". Just a thought. I adore the name Charlotte and she may not like the name Charlie as she gets older and prefer Charlotte.
For our first baby, before we lost her, we were going to name her Charlie Grace. I love that name so very much. I think she would be taken seriously, and the name sounds spunky and fun! And I dont think it sounds like a nick name. But thats just me. And even if she didnt like it so much as she got older, she could always go by her middle.
I love the name Charlie as a fn for a girl but no one else I mention this to ever does.
My grandfather was Charles and I thought it would be an awesome way to honor him. We already have a Charles and a Chaz in his honor so I thought- Charlie for a girl! DH won't go for it at all. We like the name Charlize but don't want to use a name that most people only know because of Theron (including us!)
People will say it doesn't sound formal enough for an adult. But you know, no one really complains about Katie Couric being Katie and not Katelyn or Kathleen. If it weren't so early, I'd come up with more examples. LOL
But there is also the fact that it's not just a nn but a boy nn. But it's one that I just think is really cute on a girl. "ie" ending names don't *sound* all that masculine if you take away your previous ideas of them.
GL! I have no clue how you should spell it. But if you and your DH like it and agree, don't worry about what others think. Once people know and love her, they will love the name.
My stepsis named her DD Charleigh. I don't know... it never really grew on me. It seems cute to call a baby and small child Charleigh, but I don't think it'll be so cute when she's an adult.
Personally, I HATE when names cross gender barriers. Charlie sounds VERY manly to me, but I realize it is growing in popularity for girls right now. I saw a show on tv last night where the twin girls were named Evan and Logan. WTF!!!!!?

I totally agree with this. I completely don't understand using the name or nn Charlie for a girl. Charlotte is beautiful, Charlie is a boy's name.

I think it works as double fn as child and then it's fine as just a fn as an adult.
For ex: she goes by Charlie and/or Charlie Jane, Charlie Faith, etc as a little girl then just Charlie as an adult. We know a little girl named Charlie Morgan and she is ALWAYS Charlie Morgan. It really really suits her. Adorable.
On another thought- have you considered Carly? It's nms, but's similar to Charlie but seems more "acceptable".

I like it, and I would spell it "Charlie." I grew up with a unisex name--actually it was pretty much a boy's name at the time--Corrie. My parents spelled it that way to feminize it a bit. Not one person ever made fun of my name, and I loved that there were never two other Corries in my class.
I think Charlie is cute and sassy for a little girl. I know someone who named their daughter Charlotte, but they always call her Charlie anyway, so why not just name her Charlie? That's why my parents didn't name me Corrinne--because they planned on just calling me Corrie.
P.S. I actually don't think Charlie makes a good nm for Charlotte, because the "Ch" is pronounced differently for each name. And they are essentially the same length--Charlie is not really shorter (in syllables). So just go with Charlie!
You are setting your child up for a lifetime of people being surprised that she is a girl when they meet her, when she is assigned to their class, or when she is assigned to be their college roommate.
Seriously, don't do that to your child.

I love Charlie as a nn for Charlotte (it's on my list of names) and even as a nn for Charlize.
DH isn't crazy about Charlotte, either. To be honest, it's not my favorite name, but it's pretty and it has a good meaning. It's also my grandmother's name, so that's why we're considering it. I LOVE love love Charlie as a nn for a girl.
Re: Charlie for a girl???
NMS.
I personally don't like nicknames as given names.

Hmmm. I really don't care for Charlene, Charlise, etc. Only Charlotte which is out.
I just found another spelling, Charleigh. Not sure.

I know an awful, awful woman named Charlie so it's definitely nms.
Charlotte is very cute though, too bad he nixed it. =(?
