3rd Trimester

need some support...

I am currently sitting in my bedroom bawling...my 3 year old DD is across the house in her bed screaming at the top of her lungs "mommy."  This has been going on for 20 minutes and I feel like I am at my breaking point. If its not one thing, its another. "i need to go potty, my belly hurts, my eye hurts, ....

My husband is a 1st year resident doctor at an Army hospital and he has been working nights for the past 3 days, and we have 4 more to go. It seems like everytime she doesn't see him, she freaks out. And I understand that she misses him...

I teach Kindergarten and it seems like my kids have been horrible the last couple of days. They are not listening at all, fighting constantly...its really stressing me out.  On top of all this, I have been waking up with leg cramps the last couple of nights, so I'm not real well rested. I am usually a very patient person, especially with DD because I see these misbehaving kids all day long and I don't want her to be like that.

I really just needed to whine and vent a little bit. I have absolutely no family where we live, we've only been here for 10 months, so there is really no one I can all to step in.  I'm just worried that all this stress is going to take a toll on this pregnancy....

Thanks for listening,

Jenny

Re: need some support...

  • I'm so sorry you're having a hard time!  My husband works crazy hours (shifts in the ER) so I feel your pain on having him gone overnights!  Try to calm down.  I know it's hard.  MS often tries to manipulate bed time to his advantage...one more book, I'm thirsty, I'm hungry, etc.  I don't know what to tell you other than to stand firm and don't negotiate and hopefully she'll go to sleep soon so you can rest/relax!  Hot baths always seem to help me!  Feel better!!!

  • Wow, that's awful.  I totally can relate though, with two little boys ie: terrorists lol they keep my stress level at a 9 at all times.  I wish there was something I could say that would make it better.  Maybe see if she wants to take a bath, that usually calms them a little and read a short relaxing story. . . try spending quiet quality time for  a few minutes even though it might be hard, good luck Tongue Tied  It's a really hard situation for all of you and remember your hormones don't make it any better try and relax.  That's my best advice
  • Awww Jenny!  Hugs!  I remember when my DH was a first year resident and was on call every 4th night at the hospital. We lived in AL at the time and nowhere near family.  I can't imagine going through that with kids and being pregnant!!  Hang in there!  It gets better..

  • I have gone through something similar with my DD.  I found that a nice bubble bath seems to calm her down, followed by a couple of bed time stories.

Hang in there. It will get better.

  • Thanks girls...we are still going at it. We do the quiet time every night, regardless of her mood...she has a bath and a story before lights out. And the last few nights, I make it a point to ask her "do you need to go potty, get a drink..." before we turn the lights out. And the second I step out of the room, it starts.  I know my hormones are crazy and definately aren't helping and I would love to take a hot bath and relax, but I simply don't have time. She hasn't been getting into bed until 9 or 9:30, and by then I am so wiped out, I crash. My house is so filthy, its embarassing.  I wish my mom lived closer.  :(

they always seem to know what times are the worst to do the parental toddler testing.  Do what YOU need to for your sanity -- maybe hop in the shower for a bit.  She'll be okay.  Left Hug

Completely off topic, but if my son looks anything like yours I don't think he will have to try very hard to manipulate me.  He is sooo freakin' cute!  Seriously, every time I see one of your posts my heart just melts.  Props to you for being able to stand your ground!  Big Smile
