3rd Trimester

No longer closed- stupid irritable uterus

?MW isn't concerned or anything, and I know that it's obviously not much, ?but I was still surprised to hear her say that I was at least a fingertip, almost 1cm and soft after all of the "closed and firm" discussions over the past 15 weeks. She said I would go at least 2 more weeks and that's all they care about at this point. 2 weeks?!? I've been joking that I'll probably go late with this tantrum-throwing ute and have to accept the new reality that it might be sooner than that....(or not, of course, as I know that our bodies are very unpredictable!)

Re: No longer closed- stupid irritable uterus

  • Well, going to 36 is great, all things considered. I am hoping to make it to 36 weeks with my IU as well.

  • i have an irritable ute too...everyone's surprised i'm still pregnant! you never know.
  • Yeah, my goal is 35 weeks at this point. ?:)

I believe a lot of women begin to dilate at/around 34 weeks, so it might not be your IU that's causing the dilation.

  • Im right there with you.  Im actually due two days after you.  Im already dilated 2-3 cm and 50% effaced.  Doctor says I have a very "angry cervix". I have been that way for 4 weeks, although I have been on strict bed rest.  My doctor has not said anything about when i could possibly have this baby besides she has seen people be dilated like me and go past thier due date.  They refuse to even give me a ball park or guess as to my progress.  I had an internal on monday and she pulled out half of my mucus plug on accident!! I have lost the rest of it since then.   Im supposed to be off bed rest next week and then im wondering if that will make me progress more.  I have been on bed rest for 4 weeks so as soon as I am off, im going to be running around like a crazy lady trying to get things done.  Best of luck to you!!

I feel for you and I know that that may happen!!

I feel for everyone in this thread. IU sucks so much.I had to stop exercising and can't do anything without having a contraction. Bend over? Contract. Switch positions in bed? Contract. Have to pee? Contract. Just peed? Contract. Walking to pee? Contract. Get into car? Contract. Sat in car for more than 7 minutes? Contract. augh!!!!?

Insert sad face for you. Angry cervix sounds even worse than irritable uterus! ?

  • I had a day last week where I had lots of contractions so my OB did an exam and I was also a fingertip dilated at 33 weeks.  My OB said that up to 2 cm dilated was completely normal at this point in pregnancy and not at all indicative of going into PTL.  He said he would be concerned if I was 3 cm or more before 35ish weeks.

LOL you have described my pregnancy in a nutshell! this is why i can't sit in the recliner! for some reason that position is the worst for contractions for me!

hang in there mommy, you're almost in the clear!
