I send send photos of the kids to BIL (DH's brother)

BIL texts me just now:......they are adorable..  then some mushy stuff.

Pin text back: Yeah you guys should see them...they are growing like weeds. They can burp their ABC's.

BIL texts back: We are far away and that makes it tough, but we are family.

 

UH.....WTF??????????? You haven't visted in forever..no excuse not to see your niece and nephew. You and your wife have opportunities to visit. You have the money. They time maybe 3x a year... but Miles has seen you 2x (SIL once) and Emilia has seen you 1 time (SIL never met her).

 

DH and BIL used to be super close until BIL got married. Now they barely speak. I don't understand how family could stay away from each other for so long. It makes me sad. Miles and Emilia are soooooooooo lucky to have my sister near by and to know that BIL and SIL.

......I am not even going to tell DH his brother texted me.. he gets so upset.

I know it is tough, but you have to just take the relationship for what it is and be grateful for what they do have. There is absolutely nothing you can do to change it, and I know that sucks, but it is what it is.

I hate to see siblings fall apart like that and just wonder what we can do to make sure it doens't happen to our kids?

Sorry about your BIL. Your kids are super lucky to have your sister so close.

I only see some of my family once a year and they live a town away.  You could be worse off.
