Playing in crib before falling asleep

How long do you let them play before falling asleep?

DD is almost 2, and sleeps/naps wonderfully. She usually does a 2+hr nap from 12-2or 2:30pm and sleeps 7:30pm-6:30/7am. She usually tells me "tired, rest in crib" if she is ready for her nap before the usual time. Today - that was at 11am. Usually she is right out but the past few days (may have something to do with the time change) she is playing in her crib for longer and longer stretches before falling asleep. She is happy and talking to herself, singing etc, sitting up, laying down...

After almost 25mins of watching her on the monitor I figured she just isnt tired so I went up to get her out to play some more, snack etc. but she refused to come out - said "tired, rest" and so I retucked her in, turned off light again etc. Now its another 25mins and she is still up just talking and playing! Its been almost an hour and she hasn't even begun her normally 2hr nap.  I feel like I won't see her til 2:30/3 now... I feel guilty that she has been up there an hour by herself awake. Any else's DC do this? How long do you leave them esp. if you try to get them out and they don't want to...

  • I would never take them out unless they were asking for it.  let her play, she'll fall asleep when she's tired

My DD never goes right now. She always talks to her animals and reads, etc. I think it is normal b/c I never fall asleep right away either.

If E doens't nap today, at least she is resting and not running around, right?

  • Unless Mia asks to get out, I leave her in there. Sometimes, especially now with the time change, it could be up to an hour. By that time she either passes out or calls me to say she's awake (and her crib is converted to a day bed but she'll still call me! LOL).

  • I will let her play for up to two hours if she doesn't fall asleep and isn't fussing. Yesterday she went down at 1, didn't fall asleep until 2:30, and I had to wake her up at 3:40 to take her to a doctor appointment.?
  • I leave my kids in their room for 2 hours in the afternoon. DS usually goes right to sleep but DD will play, sing, talk, whatever. Sometimes she will fall asleep sometimes not. She never fusses, I guess she just knows the routine and I'm not going to get her. I think it's important even if they are not sleeping to have some quiet, down time throughout the day.
