So one of my boys seems to enjoy his rice cereal. He gobbles it down, but if I am not feeding him fast enough he cries. Well, my question is, how much of the rice cereal did your LO eat before moving on to something else? Right now he eats about 2tbs of it once a day. Should I wait to introduce the next item? Also, what was your "next" food?
Re: more on starting solids
We didn't start solids until after 6 months so...
Basically I did a week of rice in the afternoon. Then I did a week of rice in the morning and afternoon. The next week, I did rice in the am and peas in the pm for 4 days. Basically every 5th day I try a new vegetable for 4 days straight in the afternoon but the rice cereal is always the morning meal.
Order of foods: peas, green beans, carrots, butternut squash
I went from cereal once a day to twice a day for a week and then started them on veggies, then added fruit as a dessert (just a few spoonfuls).
The order I started with is: sweet potato, carrots, green beans, squash, peas, then bananas, applesauce, prunes, and pears. Next up is peaches.
We skipped rice cereal and did oatmeal first on the recommendation of our pediatrician. She said we should follow the guidelines in the "super baby food" book which says that you should have a 4 day wait between adding foods but not to go more than a week giving one food only. So we did oatmeal first, then avocado, sweet potato, banana, pears, and prunes. We're also following that books' guidelines on what foods are ok to give before 6 months and there aren't a lot of veggies on that list.
Right now we usually give whatever food (fruit or veggie) mixed in with some oatmeal at each meal and we're doing one time per day. We're planning to add a second meal in a few weeks when they hit 6 months.
