Breastfeeding

Supplementing is not going well :-(

DS will not take the bottle.  Not with all formula or even with 2oz of formula mixed with 4oz breastmilk.  I'm wasting precious breastmilk trying to get him to take it and he just wont.  He has 12 days to figure it out because I'm going to California for 4 days and won't be able to pump enough milk for him.

Re: Supplementing is not going well :-(

  • try using the playtex dropins bottles - they are most like the breast.

  • My DS just started taking a bottle this week. ?I am using the Adiri Natural Nurser. ?I tried 3 other bottles beside that one and none of them worked. ?Before that, I had been finger feeding him with a syringe...we had weight gain issues and I had to supplement after every feeding. ?Hope you find something that helps!
  • Oh he'll take a bottle - he's been doing that since week 4.  He won't take it if there is ANY formula in there.  Darn kid only likes my milk :-).

It is Alimentum because of his allergies - it smells gross to me too.

  • My DS was put on Alimentum in the hospital to increase cal. of BM and he hated it. We wasted SOOOOO much BM because he just spit it out. So maybe you could try another kind. I don't think it tastes very good.
  • First off - quit using so much bm!  Try one ounce of bm and one ounce of formula first and see where that gets you, just to try and get him to take it at all.  That's tough though, I'm sorry you're having a hard time getting him to take it!
    Wheee!
