Not sure if anyone doesn't know this already, but fabric softeners actually make things less absorbent. You should never use fabric softeners (liquid or dryer sheet kind) on towels, cloth diapers, or anything else you want to be absorbent. The softening agents bind to the material which doesn't allow for it to soak up liquid but actually repels it.
I personally always do my towels/washcloths on hot in the wash and then dry them without softener. It helps kill any bacteria left in the towel as well.?
