recommend your snazzy camera!

Looking at those gorgeous pictures down below has got me "coveting thy neighbor..." I have just a point-and-shoot Nikon, but would love to buy a nice fancy one to learn how to take great shots manually. Any recommendations? Also, please recommend some lower-priced, but still great starter cameras. With this economy, I may have to work my way up.

The Nikon D40 is a great starter camera. I started with that and it was a great learning tool!
