Put a pull up on potty trained child

when having surgery?  I was just trying to figure out if maybe I should either buy some pull ups or see if I can have one from a friend for when DS has surgery.  He has been potty trained since September, but only night trained for a few weeks.  I wonder if he'll be so out of it from the anesthesia to realize when he has to go before he has an accident or if he'll be fine in underwear.  Thoughts?

Re: Put a pull up on potty trained child

  • I would definitely put a pull up on him (you don't think he'll be catheterized?).   It won't "undo" his potty training to put on a pull up for a day or two.....
  • Oh, I never thought about if he'll be cath'd or not.  I'll have to call and ask.  That's a good question.  Yeah, I'm not worried about putting him a pull up and know he won't care.

  • depends on the surgery.  short surg, nope.  most of the time they are out of it for a short time but they get over it.  if it's for urinary/penis/scrotum/hernia issue, then yes b/c they will most likely using a local numbing med  that may make it hard for him to feel the urge.
