Ok, I will admit, I have a problem with my FIL. Aside from the fact that he's a pompous as$, the man is carrying on a relationship with another woman (with whom he fathered a child 3 years ago), without his wife's knowledge. His wife, who has been battling breast cancer (and thankfully winning) is no charmer either, but she's better than he is.
When we announced our pregnancy, FIL was "thrilled" and offered to buy the baby's bedroom furniture. Well, that never happened. He also offered to by the travel system. That never happened either.
So, now that the baby is almost here, DH told him if he really wanted to help, we need to get a new bedroom set since we're rearranging the entire family, and we're moving into a smaller room. FIL said sure, that would work. So DH sent him a link to the set we want which is ENTIRELY reasonable at $700 (Hello - Crib+dresser+ changing table+travel system would have been more than that), and now FIL is once again backing out!!!
You know, I don't EXPECT anything from him - and I have no problem with us paying our own way on everything, but GOOD GOD. Stop offering to pay for things and then backing out!
As$!!!
One of these days, I'm going to "accidentally" spill the beans about his other kid. *GRRRRR*
Re: FIL Vent
Ick. Honestly, just don't expect ANYTHING from him. EVER.
my FIL is the exact same way. He is supposeed to buy us our play and pack since they have never done anything for DD, but I have a sneaking suspition that my DH will have to run out and buy it when I'm in the hospital recovering from my C/S.
your FIL sounds like a winner like mine.
Why hasn't the FIL told his wife about the kid and the "other woman"? *Head hurts thinking about the F'd up situation* I'd say tip the can a bit and see if the beans fall out on there own.
I have learned not to give too much to people offering to buy things for me when they have a bad track record of offering and not buying anything. I would say forget him and if he states something like that again just have MIL back you up and you might be able to get something from them.
