exercise and IVF (SAIFW)

At what point did everyone stop or cut back on their normal exercise routine during your IVF cycle? I know I will stop completely during the 2WW but should I change anything before then??

 ThanksWink

Re: exercise and IVF (SAIFW)

  • Good question, I was going to ask my RE next Tues when we go in for injects class.  I've just been doing a brisk walk lately and I want to keep it up..during the 2ww though i'll likely do nothing.  Looking forward to hearing the responses!
  • when i started stims i stopped working out. i might have gone for a few easy walks during stims, but not much. once i had my ER i did zero workouts til after my 2ww and positive test (and even then i eased back into things very slowly).

  • most of us are instructed to stop any intense high-impact exercise after stims start, b/c your ovaries get enlarged and you don't want to injure them. I was told walking is ok. So all I do is walk the dog every day.

  • My RE said no exercise or heavy lifting throughout the cycle. I used to workout pretty intensively 5-6x a week before I started doing infertility treatments. I hate that I rarely exercise anymore and I hate that I've gained 15 pounds in 3 years (unfortunately, I really really enjoy food and working out helped me maintain my weight), but I follow the RE's orders.

You should not be doing any heavy lifting or running or exercises with twisting motions while stimming. Your ovaries will get heavy and big during stimming and because of this there's a chance (even though it's pretty small) that the ovaries could twist and cut off blood flow to them.

Basically, your body should just get a lot of rest when you're cycling. So take it easy. I think light walking is ok as long as you don't get your heartrate up too high.

    good luck!

  • i walk about 45 minutes every day but that is it..no high impact
  • Ditto, no high impact or "bouncing" motion exercise. I walked but stopped that after several days of stims. I just feel so bloated that I don't want to exercise at that point.
