DS was prescribed this antibiotic after he was diagnosed with his 3rd double ear infection in a month. Amoxicillin was not doing the job.
Anyways if you have given it to your child what was your experience like?
DS has been nauseous and whiny every since we started it last night, after 11 hours of sleeping he downright refused his bottle this morning usually he is very hungry in the morning.
I know that nausea is a side effect but what about the grumpy attitude? Is that common as well?
Re: Augmentin: Has anyone given this antibiotic to their child?
We used Augmentin but didn't have any side effects/troubles.
But, I know I'm pretty grumpy when I'm nauseous. So grumpy is probably a side effect of the nausea.
My silly Lily is almost 4.
DD was on it for an ear infection. The not eating is probably because his ears are bothering him--DD refused to eat for a couple of days. But the augmentin really upset her stomach which made her very agitated, and of course, not eating made it bother her stomach even more. We ended up mixing it up with banana puree and giving her a little rice cereal before we tried to give her the medicine. That seemed to help.
It sucks though. I hope he feels better soon!
My DS has double ear infections all the time. When we go for rechecks he is always starting a new one. I think he has had 8 of them in the past 5 months (since starting daycare)
I would do your best with trying to get the Augmentin in him, because the next two rx that they will give you if he won't take this is even worse.
I would just add a few drops to every bottle and meal throughout the day. SO little that he doesn't taste it, but enough that by the end of teh day he got most of what he should have.
Good luck!
