I'm not trying to say I'm a better mom than them or anything, but there have been so many times where something will come in conversation with another mom and I feel like I already know so much more about the topic/thing than the other mom....all thanks to posts on here and all of you knowledgeable ladies! Some things that come to mind that I've had this feeling about: sleep/naptimes, solid food, mesh feeders, carseat safety, breast milk storage stuff, and survival swim lessons (or whatever they're called).
Re: Do you ever feel more knowledgeable than non-Nestie moms?
I do, but I also feel odd saying "Well, the ladies on the interwebz say..."
Ditto this. And I call it "My baby board" because I can't bear to say, "The Bump." Who came up with that name anyway?
Yes a million times over - because of all you lovely ladies I feel like I can master any baby related issue!! I am friends with mom's that are the same age as DS and it boggles my mind when the other moms don't even care if their babies nap well, or don't know any of the sleep training books out there (they've been advised to just CIO), don't know what to do about their baby's eczema (one lady has done NOTHING for her baby's eczema which is why I posted then printed out the post to give her a list of things to try - thanks again girls!). ?Another mom I know was going to start feeding her baby strawberries because she made a strawberry shake and the baby looked interested in eating it...oh lord I tried not to freak but pointed out some good books/websites so she could get info on feeding her baby solids...
I would be lost without The Nest...I've learned so much on here!
I feel that way too. I am a huge nerd and over-analyze a lot anyway, so before the nest I would read up on everything until my brain felt like it was about to explode. Now I read up, post and then compare opinions with what I have read.
It makes me twitch when moms I know IRL just pick something because they liked the color. Did you read up on that carseat? Did it get good ratings? How well do you think it would hold up in an accident? The fact that it is hot pink means nothing if you are hit! But I try not to say anything.
I still call it the Nest. I refuse to call it The Bump. Lamest name EVER.Reminds me of an amusement park ride..."Come experience The Bump! Fast paced and full of snark!"
This.
DHs cousin had her baby the same day DD was born and we are night and day when it comes our parenting styles. She has two kids already so she holds on to what she knew from the first. She yells at me for some of my decisions (feeding, usually). I roll my eyes because I know your girls would approve!
I still find it interesting that there are so many different parenting styles on this board (for instance, I *loosely* follow BabyWise while there are moms on this board that would rather use the book to hit me over the head - it's okay...I don't mind), but I think it's awesome that I can find different POVs about a topic I'm unsure about and make a somewhat educated decision. Reading a book usually only gives you one slant.
