Hi ladies- I'm trying to find a crib and I was wondering how crucial dropdown sides are, especially as baby gets a little bigger and the mattress is lowered. ?I have my eye on an Ikea crib and it has a removable side to create a toddler bed but not a dropdown option. ?I'm kinda short (5'2) and I don't want to put my back out! ?Anyone have any experience with this? ?Thanks!

Baby Bargains recommends not getting dropdown sides as it can be dangerous. I'm short too - 5'3 - so I'm thinking I'll need a stool once we lower the mattress.
I thought fewer manufacturers are making cribs with the dropdown sides because they aren't as stable or safe...something to that effect?
Anyway, I'm 5'2'' and I got a plain crib with no dropdown sides. I think it will be fine.
in my opinion they are important. i feel when they are down , u put the baby down gentler. but thats just my opinion!
I'm short too (5'1") and we bought a crib that does not have a drop down side and I am really regretting it. I don't know what I was thinking! I don't know how I am going to reach to lay DS down when we have the mattress lowered all the way.
I suggest getting one with a drop side.
I found it to be critical late in PG #2 when DD #1 was still in the crib. Other than that, probably not a necessity (but I am 5'7")
