I'm posting to let you know about a very scary experience I had this morning. If you use the Ultimate Crib Sheet, I urge you to stop. Especially if the one you have has plastic snaps. I have emailed the company who makes it (Basic Comfort) to let them know about the issue and to request a recall. Here's what happened:
I placed one of these products on my registry at Babies R Us when I was pregnant. Someone purchased it for me and I began using it when I transitioned my son to his crib (about 6 months ago). I liked the convenience it offered so much that I went out and bought a second one (again from Babies R Us). When I opened the package I noticed the snaps were different - plastic instead of metal. I didn't think much of it and used it for several months in conjunction with my other one.
I just went to get my son up from a nap and noticed he had unsnapped one of the corners. When I went to snap it back into place, I noticed one end of one of the snaps (the "receiving" end) had come off completely. I found the smooth part of the snap on the floor but still cannot find the other part (I've attached pictures to illustrate this). I immediately took the sheet off the crib mattress and plan to never use that sheet (or the other one I own) again.
I cannot explain how upset this incident has made me. I hope to find the rough end of the snap somewhere in his nursery. If he swallowed it, I thank God he did not choke on it. The possibilty is unthinkable and I can only hope no other children are affected. I don't understand how this defect did not become apparent in product testing and how a product with a serious defect like this wound up on the market.
Please forward this to all friends with babies/small children. I would hate to hear of a choking incident related to this faulty product.
Re: xp: Ultimate Crib Sheet
I have it and never found it that useful. Mostly bc DD has never had a blowout in her crib. But I put it under a regular fitted sheet just in case. That way the mattress is still protected and I don't have to deal with the straps.
?Scary experience! Glad your DS is ok!?
