trying not to wig out on a friend

I am trying really hard not to go postal on an old friend of mine.

She quit her job several months ago and chose to sell mary kay from home. dumb move in this economy however, smarts was never really her strong suit to begin with.

I am a WAHM- i am an accountant. I am working like 50hr weeks while taking care of DD at home alone.

She has called me several times to buy makeup from her etc. Each time i tell her no- not know. I am a SAHM and i can't remember the last time i put makeup on. Etc.

She called me today and said, 'look you really need to book a skin, hair and nail demonstration and help me out... i really dont want to have to go back to work and i am trying to get my business up.'

she wasn't getting the hint.

I said, 'look, i dont want to have to go back to work either- and that is why i am not wasting my money on makeup i dont wear' and i told her to stop calling me about it.

getting two to three hours of sleep a night is making me pretty cranky. I can't wait until tax season is over.

  • Your response was appropriate I think, but then I'm a snarky bitch_.

  • Ugh - I hate that. I hate the invites to the candle parties and the purse parties I don't need a $30 candle I could get at the dollar store or a fake Coach bag, thanks.
  • That right there is the #1 reason why I decided I could never sell MK. I could not hound family & friends like that . How awful she's treating you that way!
  • I would have reacted the same way.  I cringe when friends invite me to those parties and I always make an excuse not to go.  I've got my own bills to pay and don't need to buy junk I don't want to support them. I'd honestly rather just give them money directly if they really needed it.
  • I would have said the same thing.  I'm lucky though because I have the real excuse that Mary Kay makes my eyes all itchy so I can't wear their makeup.

  • I'd go to one of the food parties...but nobody has ever invited me.I guess I look like I don't need anymore food. LOL.

I  have a friend who always invites me to candle parties but I always reply with "I'm sensitive to smells," which is true.  Sorry I dont need to go to a party so  you can get an extra discount.

  • I once went to a cosmetics party that someone was having in a hotel room with a bunch of my cosmetics friends. I didn't realize what exactly it was until I was already there (and I had ridden with someone). FYI- I was working in cosmetics at Saks at that time too. So I excused myself to the ladies' room, texted my BF of the time to call me ASAP and when he called, I excused myself & I told him that I needed him to pick me up! I then told the girls that my BF had something special planned for me and I didn't want to miss out. And he picked me up & I was off the hook!
