Vent: Really people?! Have you never seen 3 kids before?!

So today I took the kids to Borders at a mall in our area for storytime. We went last week with my Mom and the twins loved it so I figured I would voyage out alone with all 3. I wore Logan in a snugli and I had the twins in the double stroller until we got to story time and then I let the twins out... whcih was interesting....we lasted until the last story and then it was time to go--- anyway... so I figure that since I put in the effort in getting out I might as well walk around the mall for a little while even though I had no intention in buying anything and had no money with me. So I'm walking along and a bazillion people comment... "are they ALL yours?" "You have your hands full" etc etc. My fave:

Them: Are they twins?

Me: Yep

Them: Are you sure? They don't look anything alike.

Me: You know I better call my Dr and ask; I was pregnant with both of them at the same time, and I delivered them via emergency c-section b/c they were stuck in the birth canal together but I will call and ask my Dr if they are twins; I've never really asked him before so I should probably get clarification from him on that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. (And then I walked away).

So anyway, as I'm walking through the mall people would comment on how full my hands were and after a certain point they would get a real snotty "Thanks for pointing that out to me" people would start to talk about me amongst themselves like I'm deaf! Um, I'm 4 feet away from you- I can still hear you! Ugh...it's almost like I'm frustrated if I stay in the house and I'm frustrated if I go out...I can't WAIT until the spring when we can just go outside and play in our yard :)

Re: Vent: Really people?! Have you never seen 3 kids before?!

  • I hear ya! I posted something similar last week about going to the zoo.  I have a toddler plus twins.

The "you have your hands full" comment really burns me. I just wish that if people wanted to comment, they would say things like...Oh you are doing a great job handling your kids or I'm proud of you for getting out of the house.

All I can say is that I understand where you are coming from!

  • This is why I don't go out often.  I had a hard enough time with the twins but now twins and a newborn!?!?!?  The good news is, sometimes they don't even see the baby and we are just on our merry way.

My twins will be 2 at the end of the month and my baby is 2 1/2 months old.

  • Loading the player...
  • I love how people assume that because you have twins you must be deaf.

There are so many times I want to say HELLO!  I CAN HEAR YOU!!!

Wear your baby with pride girl!  They are just amazed at how LUCKY you are to have three beautiful children.

  • Yeah i totally get what your saying. I only have twins, but i swear if i have to hear "you have your hands full" one more time im going to snap. lol. everywhere i go it's like... "twins" "twins" "are those twins". One time i was like actually no i cloned my baby. HAHAHA! It was a bad day:)
  • I hate it when people say "I feel sorry for you" when they find out I have twins and especially twin girls....Don't feel sorry for me. I say "I feel sorry for you"

I do hate using the DSNG stroller...it gets too much attention. But, why do people feel they have to make comments?!

  • DH and I have seriously considered buying shirts that say "Yes, we know we have our hands full!"  I HATE that comment.
  • One time I was out w/ my SIL and we had the boys with us, in their double stroller in their matching car seats.  Now yes one is 3 lbs heavier and when they were younger you could really see the difference.  Some woman actually said:

    "Which one is yours"

    me: "uhm they both are"

    woman: "are they twins"

Me: "uhm yea" in this like are you dumb lady voice

Now ok yes one looked older, but why would I have a double stroller w/ matching car seats and only have 1 baby and the other baby was a friend's baby.

  • I totally get your need to vent.

    ?

But really--does this really bother you all so much? ?I get the same comments, but they don't bother me. ?I feel stinkin proud that I got my babies outside, they're not pitching fits, and I've showered and feel fairly put together. ?The ignorance is amusing, but not infuriating. ?But makes for good stories. ?But seriously, I don't spend any energy on other people's issues or comments. ?Not worth it.

    ?

I get the "glad it's you and not me" ?and once I got a "I'd kill myself" (I was at the grocery with two newborns), which I thought was a pretty stupid comment--but only reflects poorly on the man who said it. ?Idiot. ?Glad it's me and not you too :)

    ?

Anyway, vent away. ?When people start to annoy me, I refuse to make eye contact and keep my head down and full steam ahead. ??

  • I'm starting to get "Are they triplets?"

    Hmm
