have you switched pedi's within the same practice?

we have used DD's pedi since birth. on day 2 of our hospital stay, one of the other pedis in the practice was doing rounds and i really liked him a lot.  we have since seen pedi 2 one other time for a same day appt when DD had a sinus infection.  overall, i like pedi 2 much better than ours.  our guy is nice, but since the last few appts i have wanted to switch pedis.

the past probably 3 appts we have waited in the waiting room for almost 45 minutes before even getting called back, while other people come and go, come and go before we even go back.  there are 2 other pedis as well as a NP.  his nurses are ok, but 50/50 on whether they are nice or not.  i also dont enjoy the front office staff, but?  bottom line is my pedi often seems busy, kind of flippant, and doesnt give me straight answers.  the other guy is very sweet, loves on my DD whenever we have seen him, etc.  last straw was when i called to reschedule her 1 yr appt because my pedi will be out of town.  her bday is the 12th, and they scheduled me for the 27th because he will be gone. then the girl says "well i guess i can just overbook him"  which to me says ill be waiting anohter 45 minutes in the waiting room. i am thinking about calling back and saying i cant make it that day, can i possibly book an earlier appt with dr 2?  then what if i just keep going back to dr 2? do i need to say something?  ugh. TIA for any advice!

Re: have you switched pedi's within the same practice?

  • I used to work in an office with two peds and three family practice doctors.  In our clinic, at least, it was perfectly fine to see whomever you were most comfortable with/whomever was available.  My DD, for example, has seen all three peds and one of the FP doctors.  Some offices will not allow you to switch, but usually those are just specialty clinics around here.  Where they have allowed you to see doctor #2 already I'd say you would be fine.  I personally think seeing someone that your child AND you are comfortable with is high on the priority list.

  • I switched pedis in the same office after DD's 4 mo. appt. ?We only choose her first one because he was the pedi who was on-call when we were at the hospital. ?I liked him and he did a good job but I met the 2nd pedi during one of DD's sick visits and just felt like I clicked better with her. ?I liked her attitude etc. ?Her nurses were also so much nicer than the 1st pedi's. ?So we just booked her next well-visit with the 2nd dr. and have gone back to her since.
