Anyone have private insurance?

I will be quitting my job by the end of the month and I'm the insurance carrier.  DH is self-employed, so we need to look into private insurance.  What do you have and how much do you pay? (if you don't wanna say, that is fine) :)

Re: Anyone have private insurance?

  • We have blue cross blue shield of tx.  It is a HSA plan with a deductible of $2200 I think.  Once the deductible is paid it is a pretty good plan (pays 90%) except it doesn't include maternity Indifferent.  We got a cash discount at the hospital and the OB to have ds but it was still a lot of money.  Our insurance agent could not get us a plan that had maternity unfortunately.  Anyway, we pay $300 a month for all three of us.  GL!

  • I am in CA and for me and DD I have Blue Cross/Anthem. It also does not have maternity. It is $220 for the 2 of us.
DH has his own plan at about $120 (about) a month. I believe he has Pacificare.

    My co-pays are $40 a visit.

  • I also have anthem blue cross blue shield.  The HMO policy is the only one that covers maternity.  We were paying about 650/month just for the two of us.  After DS was born that jumped up to just over $1000/month.

We spoke with the 3rd party who we get our insurance through to figure something else out.  We're in the process of taking DS and DH off the HMO and have them on a deductible plan.  I'm staying on the HMO because we plan on having more children and the other plans don't cover maternity.  With this new set up it's $350/month for me and $400/month for DH and DS.
