What do you put under sleep sack?

DS was always swaddled and since he gave it up, I've just been able to put him in an undershirt and warm pajamas and he's been fine.

Last night he woke up in the middle of the night and his hands were freezing. I want to dress him warmer to sleep, but I'm afraid of over heating as a SIDS risk. We never used a sleep sack before, but I'm going to invest in some. What do you put your LO in if they sleep in a sleep sack? Are they in a sleeper and then in the sack? Just an undershirt?

  • My DS wears his warm footsie PJ's underneath.

  • yep i put a onesie with the little mitts that go over the fingers under his slepe sack.  he wont get too hot, he will be just perfect.  i was worried about that at first too.

  • We usually do a footed sleeper and a warm fleece sleepsack.  On nights that it's really cool I'll do a onesie underneath the sleeper.  Her hands are sometimes cold, but the dr. said that was fine as long as her body feels warm.

  • Last night we went from the swaddle to sleep sack.  We put her in zip up pjs without a onsie and just the cotton sleepsack. I think the fleece one would have been too warm for her.
  • Our upstairs gets really cold. DS usually wears a long-sleeve onesie, pants, socks, and a fleece sleeper under his!

  • DS would FREEZE if we just put him in a onesie or undershirt and then the sleepsack. ?We dress him in a onesie, footed fleece sleeper and then a fleece sleep sack. ?His hands are still cold, so we sometimes put mittens on. ?

Trust me he does not overheat. ?and we live in an interior townhouse and keep the thermostat at 65 at night.?

  • It depends on how cold it is.  When it is going to be really cold I will put DS in a warm, thick sleeper and the fleece sleep sack.  When it is going ot be more mild I put him in a onesie and the sleep sack.  This summer I think he will only need a cotton footsie sleeper and nothing else.  His hands usually are cold, but I don't want to cover them cause he is a thumb sucker and I know anything I put over his hands would get and stay wet, making his hands even colder.
