Fuss it Out

Interesting.  Normally for naps I stay in the room until my DS falls asleep.  It's a battle to get him to nap.  I will put him in his swing and sing to him and as soon as you stop singing he starts fussing again.  Well yesterday after 40 minutes of singing with a sore throat I needed to leave the room.  He was fussing but not crying.  I left for 5 minutes max and after two he calmed down and then he fell asleep on his own.  I think that was really good for us.  He managed to self soothe and I didn't go insane.  I felt bad but I think I need to start stepping away more and not run to him when he fusses.  Anyone else let there baby fuss it out?

Re: Fuss it Out

  • i do it all the time. she does better sometimes when she fusses alone and calms herself down than when i hold her. ?if she is fighting sleep and doesnt fall asleep after fussing, i leave her, wait sometimes until she cries out, then go soothe her and she falls asleep. me and my DH call it letting her get pissed off first :) if I go in too early, sometimes she will start smiling and want to play but she is so tired and needs to sleep.

  • yup, sometimes he will go to sleep and just needs to get himself to settle down. I go in once he starts all out crying.

  • Us too!

It helped to get her to sleep better, actually.  I used to RUN into her room and soothe her.  But, we started letting her fuss a couple months ago - and it really helped.

We still let her fuss, often she is actually fussing in her sleep.
