open house for birthday party?

I know we will end up having to invite more people than I would like to DD's b-day party and we dont have room for too many guests....is it tacky to have an Open House style from 12-4?

Re: open house for birthday party?

  • It all depends on your family and friends.  Just be open to the fact that people may stay the entire time...also, most people like to be around to see DC cut the cake, and maybe open gifts...so keep that in mind.

We are doing a 2 day thing...Saturday afternoon/evening its Family and then on Sunday afternoon we are having Friends.  Pretty much the same food so its not an added expense.

  • i thought of the presents/cake thing too.....we are hoping to avoid 2 parties b/c my parents are divorced and we dont want to start the 2 party trend with them....
  • We did an open house for my friends baby shower and you could do a birthday similar. Have her open gifts as people arrive or in batches like ever 20 mins or so. Maybe put on the invite that she will be enjoying her cake at such and such time so people can plan to come before and leave as soon as she is finished or they can plan to come right when she is eating and stay after. It may cause a lot of people at cake time but hopefully they would be rotating then. Good Luck! I never thought it would be so hard to put together a birthday party!
