Burping baby after falling asleep

Sometimes DD falls asleep- like tonight at the end of the feeding before I can burp her. She is out cold. I tried to burp her but nothing happened and she was completely passed out so I just put her to bed. Is this a bad idea? I don't want her to have a belly ache later but I didn't want to force her awake? What do you do? Thanks.

I force the burp...but, what do I know I've only been a mommy for 18 days.  DS hates it and he wriggles around and makes faces, but it makes me feel more comfortable and then I don't worry about him spitting up when I put him down to nap.  Hope this helps.

I put her to bed if she's asleep - usually she is so relaxed during the feeding that she isn't taking in too much air and doesn't need to burp.

when mine starts to fall asleep i go ahead and burp her then let her return to eating so she hasn't eaten too much without a burp.  she usually goes right out and sleeps with no problem.
