do you get irritated if your "routine" is thrown off?

Like with visitors, guests, people in the house or appointments?  I feel like the day runs like clockwork when it's just me and the babies but throw one more person in the mix and it's a madhouse.  My sister and her friend were in town today and the babies hardly napped at all, didn't eat all their bottles, and generally went crazy.  I'm dreading tonight because I'm pretty sure they're just going to go nuts instead of sleeping... ugh.

It's sad because I like having company... but it seems like it's always at the expense of the babies being sane.

Re: do you get irritated if your "routine" is thrown off?

  • never thought i would say this but YES! I hate when my day is throw off even by 1/2 an hour :/

with two babies I rely on the sanity of the schedule and most of my family and friends know that I do not sway at all from it. I love having company and friends over but the days of hanging out at someone elses house are long over for us..

  • Yes!  Completely!  And I LOVE having company/going out w/ the babies but I do get some anxiety knowing the routine will be off and they will meltdown more/be more restless overnight.  This weekend was my b-day--we had A LOT of company throughout the weekend plus one night, DH and I went out for a whole night (NICE!!!) and my in-laws were in charge of their nightly routine of PJ's, dinner, book & bed.  I was STRESSED over it so much.  I guess we can't avoid those days when it will happen and I keep having to tell myself that babies are resilient and will bounce back into their routine the next day!

  • I totally get this.  my sister and my mom think I am crazy because at night time I have to do the same things, in the same order, at the same times.  I am so worried about going on vacation at the beginning of april with the babies because there is no way i am going to be able to keep them on their schedule/routine.  anyway, i ahve never been a planner, but for the past 9 months since they were born my days are planned to the minute.
  • Yes! I am such a schedule freak! Even if DH and I get a date night and MIL or someone watch the kids, I am freaking out the entire time thinking are they over feeding them, putting them to bed on time, did they get their jammies on at 6, and bottle at 7? I need to chill out! They are grown adults and can handle putting 2 babies to sleep, but I can't help but feel this way about them sticking to routine.
  • Yes and no.  It use to REALLY throw me off.  For the past couple of months I have been trying to be more flexible (esp. with naps).  I am hoping as they get older I will be able to be more and more flexible.
  • I do! We don't even have that definite of a routine/schedule yet, but we are slowly moving in that direction ... and when it gets thrown off, it seems like it's one step forward, two steps back! :(
