Can a dreamfeed backfire?

I've been thinking about trying a dreamfeed, but I'm afraid I'll wake her up too much. She's sometimes hard to settle when she wakes at night. Have you ever woken the baby too much with a dreamfeed?

Re: Can a dreamfeed backfire?

  • Yes, dreamfeeds can backfire! ?Our little guy wakes up 3 hours after the feeding no matter when it is. ?So, if we woke him for a dreamfeed, he'd be up 3 hours later which we do NOT want. ?That being said, sometimes dreamfeeds work well. ?As usual, it really depends on the baby. ?I just didn't like the idea of dreamfeeds either--waking a sleeping baby up to feed him/her when he/she isn't hungry. ?But some parents swear by them b/c it results in more sleep for them. For us, it would result in less sleep.

  • I think it depends on the baby. Ive done it a couple of times and it has been a success. I woke up painfully engorged and was too lazy to pump. He never woke up and slept a lot longer! GL :)
