2nd Trimester

Glucose test

Hi everyone. Long time lurker, occasional poster ;)

I am scheduled to do my one hour glucose test. I would like to make the appt. for this weekend. The problem? The lab is only open until 12:00 and I have to take my dog to the vet at 11:30. I was thinking of making the appt. earlier in the morning. My doctor already gave me the stuff that I need to drink. The question that I have is that I know that I need to fast for 3 hours. If I make the appt. at like 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning I will have more than likely have fasted for way more than that, like eight hours due to sleeping. Do you think fasting that long will somehow skew the results or do you think it really matters? I am going to ask when I make my appt. but wanted to see what you ladies think. Thanks for any input!

Re: Glucose test

  • is this your one hour test or your 3 hour test?

for your one hour you should have to fast at all, but if this is your three hour if you failed your one hour then you only have to fast one hour before and all the three hours after you drink the drink until you get your blood drawn.

  • I didn't have to fast for my one hour.
  • That is weird. The paper that I got from my doctor says to fast for my one hour test. Fast for three hours, two hours into it drink the sugary drink they gave me then after the hour I should get my blood drawn. hmmm.. now I think I should call my doctor.?
  • Usually, you don't have to fast at all for the one hour test. But no, I do not think that fasting longer than that will matter. If you have it, you have it. If you don't, you don't.

  • I don't have to fast for my 1 hr. either, but they gave me instructions on what not to eat. Basically I can eat dry toast or scrambled eggs.

  • my 1 hour is scheduled for 8:30am. my midwife told me not to eat past midnight, just drink water, which is fine because i normally wouldn't be eating then anyway.

I guess all doctors are different. There's gotta be reasons behind fasting and not fasting

  • I have my glucose test @ 1:30 tomorrow, and it says I can eat a normal diet. Just not to eat/drink anything except for water an hour before and an hour after, I drink the glucola drink.
