2nd Trimester

pregnant friend thinks she already has a bump at 8 weeks...ahh

I know this shouldn't annoy me but it does!  She just found out she was pregnant a few days ago and they think she's about 8 weeks (her cycle is really screwed up so they did some bloodwork and the dr's are thinking around 8 weeks but no more than that).  Her ultrasound is on Thursday to confirm everything.

She just emailed me this morning talking about her bloodwork, etc. and mentioned that she's going to start looking at maternity clothes.  huh?!? And that she already has a stomach and she can't believe how fast she's growing!  She was pregnant for almost 8 weeks and didn't realize it...now since she found out she thinks she is showing?!?  I told her to learn to love the belly band...maternity clothes weren't designed for women that are 8 weeks pregnant.

  • hehehe.. just wait until the bump really comes! She?s going to completely shocked!
  • Loading the player...
  • Tell her she just consipated and gassy!  Hehehe.
  • Did you tell her it's most likely bloat?

Also, people are built differently and some people may actually pop out sooner - probably not noticeable to others, but enough to not be able to do up their pants:)  My cousin looked 18 weeks preg. when she was 8 weeks, so who knows!

  • I still can't wear maternity tops (pants are okay) and I have somewhat of a bump. Your friend is crazy :)

  • Just wait... A few days from now she will call you in a panic because her bump is gone... Oh the wonders of a good poop!
  • Lol... she sounds like the opposite of me. I'm still not looking at maternity clothes.

Did you tell her about the 1st tri bloating? ;)?

  • Always an excellent reply: "WOW! If you're already showing at 8 weeks, you're going to be a BLIMP by 40 weeks! I was lucky- I didn't show until ___ weeks."?
  • HAHA! That is too funny. DH has a friend who has been the same exact way. She sends pictures every week to show her "baby bump"!  He jokes because I'm about 2 months ahead of her and to him its all "been there, done that."

  • I started wearing maternity clothes around 10 weeks. I was really bloated and could not for the life of me get into my clothes. They squeezed me and it hurt. I didn't walk around saying I had a baby bump though.
  • yep I told her all about the bloat I experienced at the beginning of my pregnancy...but I tried not to say too much because I know she's super excited to be pregnant and I didn't want to take her high away!

my advice was to go try on maternity clothes - then she'll see what I'm talking about.

it's true though...like someone else said, everyone grows differently.  but I just went out to dinner with her Friday night and she showed me her stomach.  she doesn't look any different and her pants were completely buttoned.  I remember feeling really bloated right around the 8-10 week mark...but I'd wake up in the morning, feel great and the second I ate something or did anything, my stomach would expand.  then at night it was gone.  same thing everyday until about 16 weeks.

  • In her defense... (but only a little bit) I started wearing maternity stuff at 8 weeks with my 1st PG because the bloat was so uncomfortable.

Did I think I was showing? Ha. No. I thought I was getting fat. But still, comfort is important to me

  • I have a friend who started getting asked if she was pregnant by coworkers at 12 weeks.  Granted, she's tiny and having twins, but still.  I've got 12 weeks on her and we started getting asked around the same time!
  • To each her own.  When I found out I was pregnant around 5 weeks, I had a bump because I just stopped sucking it in.  I let it ALL hang out.  That's the beauty of pregnancy.  Also, there was some whore staring at me in the airport the other day because I have a slight waddle.  I'm sure she thought there was no reason for me to be doing that but little did she know that I have sciatica and it's just easier to open up my hips with the waddle.  We can judge people all we want but at the end of the day, it's their pregnancy.  Let them enjoy theirs as they please.

  • My MIL told me she could see her kids moving in her stomach in the 1st month.

    So...

    Yeah

  • Oh, don't be such a stick in the mud!  I thought I had a bump at 8 weeks too!  In retrospect it was because I was so bloated, but I was sooo excited to have the bump!  Be happy with her- who cares if she gets mat clothes early- she'll grow into 'em! :)

  • I remember how bloated I was, starting at 6 weeks. ?My clothes were already tight because I had gained some weight before becomign preg, so I quickly outgrew my clothing and bought maternity jeans at 6 weeks. ?I didnt have a bump, but i definitely had the need for bigger clothing!

  • I definitely want her to enjoy her pregnancy!  That's why I didn't say anything to her directly.  This is her first pregnancy, she's really excited about it and I'm excited for her.  It's just funny when you SEE someones stomach that is flat as a board and she thinks she's showing.  I told her to try on maternity clothes...it would be fun!  I think she just needs to educate herself on pregnancy instead of her first thought being the purchase of maternity jeans when they are completely unnecessary.  I might buy her the belly band as a present :)
