anyone use vicks vapo rub?

i have an awful cold and just got off the phone with my doc about what meds i can take. i got all my info except forgot to ask about vicks vapo rub on my nose/chest.  logically i would think i can totally use it, but a quick google people were mixed reviews....

i'm being lazy and don't want to track down my doc on the phone again....anyone have more info please? thanks!

I have been using it for a week or so now! My midwife said it was totally fine. It definitly makes a huge difference for my cough. I put it on and take a bath sometimes. SO nice

It was on the "Safe to use during a cold" list that I got from my OB. And I need it.....it's my 2nd cold in less than a month after not having one for over a year!!

for SURE. when i was sick, i put it on my chest and then put a hot towel (fresh from the dryer or hung in front of the heater vent) on top of it.

I've totally been using it, and I didn't ask my doc about it - I think I saw in some material she had given me that it was ok.

BTW - and I need to post a PSA on this - I used the nasal strips (Breathe right, I think they're called) last night to try to help my congestion and they TOTALLY helped. My doc also said I could use a little Afrin just to get through the night (I don't think it's a big issue for the baby but it's tough on your already swollen nasal blood vessels) but I didn't even need it with the strips.

I had the flu at 5 weeks and the nurse said it was OK to use. I guess don't overdo it but you should be fine.

I didn't ask my doctor...but I have been using the vicks.  I then put a hot, wet washcloth over my entire face...I think that helps prevent me from drying out.
