2nd Trimester

Acid reflux problem

As I approached my second trimester, I started to feel well. But, since then every morning I have thrown up. Not because of the baby, but because of acid reflux. Is anyone else going through this? Have you found anything that helps ease this? I'm at my wits end and I've tried pepcid and it didn't work. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Re: Acid reflux problem

  • I got a prescription from my OB. It has worked miracles!! I used to have to worry all day at work about it, but I haven't had a problem since.

  • Zantac had been working for me, but it's not as effective anymore. I've been eating a couple of the vanilla Rolaids softchews after meals, and they tend to keep the nasty acid taste out of the back of my throat. They contain milk so they make me quite bloated, but it's better than throwing up.
  • I would also try sleeping in a recliner or upright.  That's one of the things my Dr told me to try.  I have been sleeping in a recliner, and it has helped wonders!!

  • I had the Dr prescibe Zantac (it's cheaper than buying OTC)  it works GREAT!
  • I have the same thing, only I wake up in the middle of the night gagging on stomach acid.  Actually, I should say that that used to happen to me, because I have completely cured it.

Here's what I do: every evening after dinner, I do a moderate (~3 mph) walk on the treadmill for at least 22 minutes (44 minutes is better if I have enough time).  Don't eat anything after the workout.  It's a pain sometimes, but I have never ever had the reflux problem on days that I've done this.  (I have been watching Arrested Development on dvd, and one episode is about 22 minutes, 2 episodes are about 44 minutes, which is how I arrived at my walking times.)  GL!
