Ultrasounds- we must be really lucky

I had an ultrasound at my first visit at 8 weeks, then another at 12 weeks (only to find the heartbeat b/c we couldn't hear it on Doppler) and I get to have my big one at 16 weeks. I've been reading on here and I've noticed that some are 19 and 20 weeks before the big one. I feel really lucky that we have got to have so many.

With K I had it asap - 17 weeks, with this one it was more of a "whenever" type of thing and had it at 19 weeks.

Yes, you are! It's so exciting and reassuring to see your baby often. With both pregnancies, I've had (or will have) about 4. For me, that early one is actually the hardest to go without. That's when I believe I am pregnant!

most insurance only oays for 1 u/s to do the measurements at 20 w.

unless you are high risk, i am so i get a few more.

i'm really not trying to burst your bubble because it is really neat and really fun to see baby on the u/s screen - but 16 weeks for your big u/s might be a little toooooo early.  my OB said measurements should be taken between 18-20 weeks.  and - i'm not sure i'd start buying pink or blue at 16 weeks as it may be hard to tell and errors are more likely at 16 weeks than 20.

It's great to find out the sex earlier, but sometimes when the big u/s is done earlier they make you come back for more shots. That happened to us in my last pregnancy, at 18 weeks they couldn't get enough shots of the heart and made us come back after 20 weeks when they were bigger.

You are super lucky! I will have my first at 20 weeks..and I dont know how many I will have after that. With our ins. (tricare) they will probably give us one!

Same with me, I saw her at 7 weeks and then at 13 when we couldn't find the heartbeat....and then 19 weeks.  My dr said he will do one at every visit, if I want.  He's really nice though, so we'll see if I get one next week or not.

I had one at 6wks, 7wks, 9wks, 13wks and 17weeks.  I am high risk though so I don't know how many my dr's office does normally.  Last time I went from 17week - 29 weeks with no u/s so I'm assuming thats what we will do again this time.  THen starting at 29 weeks I had them every time again.

I would say those that are not high risk and get a lot of u/s's are lucky b/c that is not very common.

Wow, thanks for letting me know. I had no idea that 16 weeks was really early. This is my first! I really appreciate the information.

It just depends on how the visits go and your prior medical history. This time around I've already had 5 or 6 ultrasounds. I'm only 23 weeks. With my 1st I think I had 4 ultrasounds. Once they couldn't find the heartbeat and I forget the other reasons. I have lots of ultrasound pics!

I had scheduled ultrasounds at 8 and 12 weeks. I had an emergency one at either 10 or 11 weeks due to some bleeding. They're really bad about not telling me what to expect at my next appointment, though, so I have no idea if I'll have another one at 16 weeks or not. 16 weeks sounds early to have the anatomy scan. Perhaps by 'big' ultrasound, they meant that they might be able to tell the gender?

You are lucky anytime you get to see your lil one on an u/s screen

DH is super picky about it and he wanted to wait until 20 weeks and not a few days earlier.  ugggg but it's ok hopefully we get to see more.  But still it has been so hard waiting this long.  Our first and only u/s was done at 8 weeks!!!!!!  That was soooo long ago.  I just want to see my lil one and I don't even care about finding out the sex... ok maybe I do but it's just an extra bonus.

see- i chose later for the big one just to hold us over until the end.  although we have had 5 u/s's so far.   while we are 'lucky' to have seen the baby so much-  the reasons behind it were often worrisome and i wouldn't choose that  (low heart rate- so 10 agonizing days to recheck it, not being able to hear the hb after a car accident)

I think lucky depends on how you look at it.  We have had 2 ultrasounds already: one at 6 1/2 wks, one at 9 wks.  Both were because of some worrisome bleeding.  While I was thrilled to see our baby, it was a very stressful time.  We'll have another one at 16 wks, then hopefully one more at 20 wks.

You are very lucky! I saw my baby at 13 wks and now I am waiting for my 20 wk ultrasound. Our insurance covers 3 ultrasounds, which is more than most people.

I am 18wks, and I've had 4 u/s so far.  I'm high risk, so I'll have a few more than normal.  My big u/s is March 16, I'll be 20wks then.  It would've been nice to find out a little earlier, but it works out best this way.
