We're meeting with a pediatrician today. Are there any multiple specific questions that you would recommend I ask? Or anything you wish you would have asked that you didn't? Thanks!
Ask about how they handle twin appointments. You want them to be willing to schedule them at the same time, and to treat each baby as an individual, but you also want them to wait all the shots to the end of both appointments (you don't want to be discussing one baby's health while the other one is crying from their shots).
Also, see if they have seperate well and sick waiting rooms. You'll be there for so many well baby visits you don't want the babies to get sick from the other kids in the pediatrician's office.
Find out how they handle twins appointments and how many sets of twins they treat in their practice. When I called around to find a pediatrician, I was asking how they handle twins appointments and then was amazed at how little sets of twins they actually treated at some places.
Like Cands said, find out how they separate the kids that are there for well baby visits and sick kids. My pedi doesn't have a separate waiting room but as soon as I walk-in, I tell them my name and they have an exam room waiting for me to go into so I am not near any sick kids.
I'll add that even if they don't have separate waiting areas for sick vs. well visits - our pedi schedules his well baby visits first thing in the am before the sick kids come in.
Ask about vaccination schedules or alternative schedules if that's a concern for you. I don't like to give my girls more than 2 shots at once.
Don't know what area you live in but I'm in the suburbs with some local hospitals - the bigger hospitals being in the city. A lot of suburb pedis only have admitting rights to certain hospitals. We made sure that ours had admitting rights to Childrens Hospital in Boston.
Re: Pediatrician Questions
Make sure they will see both babies at the same time for appointments especially shots.
