I was telling a coworker the baby's name the other day - it's Conor. Another coworker overheard and said, "Yuck - Terminator."
Very odd but I thought it was hilarious. DH and I keep cracking up over it.
Anyone else have an odd reaction when telling people the baby's name?
Re: Strangest Reaction to Baby's Name
First of all, your coworker is rude.
Second, I love the terminator movies and have never associated the name Conor with them. It's strange what some people come up with.
That is wierd....
We're naming our little girl Isla, and people either say "Oh, like Isla Fisher?!" (no) or "did you make that up?" or "Spell it.... why is there an s?"
"You're gonna miss this You're gonna want this back You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast..."
That was rude.
DH and I are keeping our names to ourselves until that day (it will be DH's job to make the big announcement). That way if someone doesn't like the name they will have no choice to get over it.
our little man will be dawson and everyone says "oh like dawsons creek"?
come on! that was like 10 years ago people! haha
Oh man, I think I can top that. We agreed on Xander for a boy (from XXX). My MIL (who is Persian) asked this weekend when we were visiting them in Palm Springs what we would name the boy so we told her. She said, "That means 'shiit' in Farsi."
We were like, "um, ok...never mind then."
Rude is a nice word for what he is! I wouldn't even repeat here some of the stuff he says re: another coworker's autistic son, for fear of offending someone.
Ugh. That's why I'm pretty much keeping the names we're thinking about quiet.. We're set on a girl's name, Hannah, so we tell people that. But boys' names are harder for us to come up with so after one got 'ruined' for me I decided to keep my mouth shut on it. We had almost settled on Oran for a boy, and two people were like, "Oh, like Orrin Hatch?" I kept thinking, "No, like OUR SON, if it's a boy..."
So while Oran isn't completely off the table, it's no longer our definite boy name.
That also just made me want to choose my name even more. When I told her the girl name, she was like, "why?" At least now I know what I'm naming them for sure. Just to spite her. Then when the kid asks why I gave him/her that name, I can be like, "because your grandma is an evil witch sweetie..."
Some people have to be rude about everything.
?
Conner was our second choice (behind Liam), and we did one of those baby name polls amongst our friends and it came in first!?
When we told my dad what we were naming DS#1 (Caleb Timothy), he said "Yeah, it's better with the middle name." Um, what? Did you just say that?
I've told a few people that DS#2 will be Asher Clark and have gotten a few blank stares. We are set on the name so I figured I might as well start saying it now and figuring out how to handle to responses....

You're being too sensitive. You're reading into a reaction from someone who doesn't matter in your life/marriage/family.
If I were your coirker, I'd be more upset that you're spelling it wrong.
I thought it was funny.
"You're gonna miss this You're gonna want this back You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast..."
First, I LOVE Connor. It was our #1 boy name.
That being said, my DH's name is John and for awhile I thought John Connor would be a nice name... Then I remember that it is the full name of the kid in "Terminator".
So it was out for me. But Connor alone doesn't associated with that move at all IMO. What a rude co-worker you have!
