How do you feel about trucks and car seats?

I'm currently driving an 04' Dodge Ram Pickup and it dawned on me yesterday that unless I get something new, I'm gonna have to put the baby up front with me. I can disable the passenger air bag, but I still don't like the idea of a carseat in a truck. Am I being silly?

I do have a VW passat that DH is driving to save on gas (he drives a million miles a week), but when I mentioned to him switching back when the baby comes, he got grouchy and said he'd rather just sell the truck.

I dont think I would feel comfortable putting my babe in the front. Cant you just trade it in for something? a suv or something??

I'm facing the same problem. I want to get something different; having baby up front with me doesn't feel right.

If selling the truck is a feasible option, do it.  You'll be glad you did.  If you can't afford to sell it for whatever reason, you gotta do what you gotta do and turn off the airbag.

I wouldn't put the baby in the front seat.  I am not sure how safe it is, and even if they say it is safe, I still wouldn't feel comfortable doing that.  I agree sell the truck and get something with a backseat.

DH has a truck that is only an extra-cab, not quad cab. So I told him he wont be able to drive the baby anywhere in it b/c I don't want the baby up front even if the air bag is disabled. He agrees.

Trucks are the safest vehicles on the road, but even with that there is no way I would put my baby in the front seat.  We are only going to use DH truck for baby to ride in, but he has a back seat.  Good luck and what a great excuse to get a new vehicle!

If it's an option to trade in the truck for something else that's what I'd do. Of course if it's not an option then I'm sure you're not the only person whos ever had to drive around with their baby in the front seat.

I don't see a problem with it, so long as you have a truck with 4 doors. We are selling our truck because it's only 2 doors and the back seat is a joke. It's pretty useless to us only having 2 doors with a carseat stuck in the front. We are going to get a 4 Runner or something instead.

DH has a little 2 seater Toyota truck (I have a Trailblazer) I do not plan on putting the baby in his truck unless its an emergency.  Getting rid of the truck is not an option for us right now.  We used to have a 04 Ram and I would much rather put the baby in there than the truck we have now. I agree with everyone else about getting something else if it is feasible.  If not, turn off the air bag and drive safe!!! GL!

I'm so glad to read the responses to this post.  My mom has a little truck with no back seat and keeps talking about taking the baby places.  I haven't been thrilled with the idea of my daughter riding in the front oseat f the truck, but thought it was my own weird feelings.  I'm happy to see that it's not!!

Our secondary car is a truck, so we'll have to do the same thing at times. We're not thrilled about it and are going to get a new (extended cab) truck as soon as we can, but we probably won't be able to swing it financially before baby gets here.
