Breastfeeding

breastfeeding supplies

I'm planning to breastfeed, but this is #1 so all this is new to me.  A friend of mine has a Medela Pump In Style that she never ended up using regularly and offered to lend it to me.  I plan on purchasing all new tubing for the pump itself, but I'd also like to register for some of the accessories.  I don't want to get a ton of stuff until we figure out what will work for us, but can anyone recommend what they use with this pump?  Specifically bottles, storage/freezer bags, etc. and how many would you suggest I register for just to have a starter stash on hand when our little guy arrives?

  • Buy the accessories for it. another set, call medela and they will send the tubing for free to you. Bottles are trial and error. I would register for freezer bags, The first years bm storage organizer, Medela quick clean wipes, lanilon, lillypadz, and hands free bustier.

  • Depending on your size, you need to figure out what size breast sheild (horn) you are.  Surprisingly, the medium size is a little small.  I would register for Lanisnoh freezer bags (not the Medela ones, they don't stack well) and the First Years bottle drying rack.  As for bottles, it's hit or miss.  My LC recommended the First Years Breast Flow bottles because they simulate the breast the best.  My DD used them up to 3 months and then I switched to Avent bottles.
  • Unless it's a hospital  grade pump, you should not borrow a Medela pump that has already been used.  The PIS is an open system pump.
  • Lansinoh storage bags, extra membranes, extra pump parts, breast pads (my favorite is Johnson's).
